Five of the top seven finishers in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby wore JockeyCam technology on an outstanding weekend for the team at the world-renowned meeting.
They included Brian Hernandez Jnr, who piloted 18-1 shot Mystik Dan to victory by a nose in a thrilling three-horse finish at the Churchill Downs track – see video below.
It was a record-breaking edition of the prestigious race. The 150th Derby drew the largest audience since 1989, with an average viewership of 16.7 million tuning in for NBC’s broadcast – up 13% from last year. It was also attended by 156,710, which was up over 6,000 on 2023.
JockeyCam viewers tasted more success in the Kentucky Oaks as Brian clinched victory once again, this time aboard Thorpedo Anna in spectacular, rain-soaked conditions.
Christian Torres also put fans at the forefront of the action on Derby weekend, providing stunning footage of his victory on Gun Pilot in the Churchill Down stakes.
JockeyCam Co-Founder, Nathan Horrocks, said: “It’s always an honour to play our part in such a prestigious two days, and we were thrilled with the action picked up for both NBC Sports and FanDuel TV. Our huge thanks to all those who made it possible for fans to get a taste of the action.”
And to cap a wonderful weekend, NBC Sports, key JockeyCam partners for point-of-view action, extended their coverage of the Derby until 2032.
Nathan said, “We’ve been working with NBC since 2017 delivering live JockeyCam and it’s a great pleasure to play our part in their brilliant output so we were thrilled to hear the news of the extension. When you add our biggest partners in the US, FanDuel TV to the mix, US racing fans really are being given first class treatment when it comes to live JockeyCam, getting those watching closer to the action.”
